The David Campbell Memorial Road Race run on Sunday 27th April over 4 laps of a tough circuit around Kennoway, Craigrothie, Pitlessie, and the steep climbs of Cadgers and Porters, produced an epic ride by Callum Wilkinson of The Bicycleworks.com who was instigator of a break just 1 mile after the start and attacked the break at the end of lap three with Alex Coutts and eventually rode to a solo victory.

From the start at Kennoway Shopping Centre the race was soon climbing up towards Montraive and a break of 8 riders, from a field of 50 riders, was forming consisting of Tim Allen GS Metro, Wilkinson, Graham McGarrity Dooleys RT, Kevin Barclay Pedal Power, Chris Thomson VC Astar, Alex Coutts Giant Asia RT, Arron Murray Velo Ecosse and Derek Walker East Kilbride RC. The prime at the end of the 1st lap was taken by Allen from Thomson and Barclay as the group worked well together and had a lead of almost 2 minutes.

Into lap 2 and a chasing group was beginning to form containing Ray Wilson, Joe Wilson & Hamish Creber of Sandy Wallace Cycles, Tom Anderson Falkirk BC, Euan Pope Glasgow Couriers, Ian Taylor MTS Cyclesport/inkland, James McCallum Plowman Craven, Paul McNally East Kilbride RC. By the prime at the end of lap 2, 1 minute separated groups 1 & 2 and it was the same gap from group 2 back to the peleton, this time it was Wilkinson from Barclay and Coutts taking the king of the mountain points.

The gap between the leading groups was gradually coming down during the third lap and as the leaders came to the steep Cadgers brae it was at 20 seconds. On the ascent Wilkinson and Coutts rode away from the others just as the chasers were about to make contact. At the prime Coutts led this time from Wilkinson and the rest of the break had been joined by the chasers.

Half way round the final lap and Coutts punctured leaving Wilkinson to forge on himself. Coutts was soon back on his bike but could not close back on Wilkinson and was eventually caught by the chasers.

After all the climbing of the big circuits and the sting in the tail awaited the riders as they had two and a half laps of  a finishing circuit which climbed the prime hill from the opposite direction. McCallum and McGarrity were giving chase but were making no impression on the flying Wilkinson. On the line Wilkinson had over four and a half minutes to spare as McCallum outsprinted McGarrity for second with the remnants of the break five minutes behind and the bunch over seven minutes down.

King of the mountains was won by Wilkinson from Coutts and Allen and the team prize went to Sandy Wallace Cycles. Generous sponsorship by Fife Accident Repair Centre helped make an excellent prize list going down to 20th place.
